The ”Wedding-Ring”: An agent-based marriage model based on social interaction

چکیده
In this paper we develop an agent-based marriage model based on social interaction. We build an population of interacting agents whose chances of marrying depend on the availability of partners, and whose willingness to marry depends on the share of relevant others in their social network who are already married. We then let the typical aggregate age pattern of marriage emerge from the bottom-up. The results of our simulation show that micro-level hypotheses founded on existing theory and evidence on social interaction can reproduce age-at-marriage patterns with both realistic shape and realistic micro-level dynamics. 1Carlo F. Reforging the Wedding Ring: Exploring a Semi-Artificial Model of Population for the United Kingdom with Gaussian process
BACKGROUND We extend the „Wedding Ring‟ agent-based model of marriage formation to include some empirical information on the natural population change for the United Kingdom together with behavioural explanations that drive the observed nuptiality trends. OBJECTIVE We propose a method to explore statistical properties of agent-based demographic models. By coupling rule-based explanations drivin...

متن کاملAn Analysis to Wealth Distribution Based on Sugarscape Model in an Artificial Society
In this paper an artificial society is being assumed as a multi agents system. A sugarscape model consisting of a cellular landscape of resources is used to form an interaction among the agents of the population. In the model, agents find the resources to survive. They are supposed to move and search and because of this movement, an evolutionary social behavior will develope. From model analys...
متن کاملThe Decline of Shotgun Weddings∗
It is well known that the tendency of unmarried pregnant women to marry has declined precipitously since the 1960s. This has been attributed to the undermining by new birth-control technologies of the "Shotgun-wedding" social norm that enforced commitment to marriage on pregnancy. However the fraction of marriages in which the bride was already pregnant before the wedding has remained remarkabl...
